Campaign to save the 539 bus route to Stainland and Holywell Green

Residents in Stainland and Holywell Green face isolation when the 539 'bus service is cut by First Group from 2 October 2022. The service runs from Bowling Green School, through West Vale to Halifax, and is a life line for residents needing to visit the GP Surgery and Pharmacy in West Vale, and to go into the Town Centre.

First Group have justified stopping the service on the basis of a lack of passengers and thus a fall in fares However, First Bus's profits have risen from 36.6 million to 45.2 million  in the last year.  Despite this First Group have announced reductions in services across the West Yorkshire Region, but the 539 is the only service to be axed completely.

Councillor Sue Holdsworth said  "This is shocking display of a hunger for profits above the provision of a 'bus service for all communities. The 'Bus Recovery Grant which supported the continuation of services was due to expire in October 2022, but local leaders successfully lobbied Central Government for an extension of the Grant, so the withdrawal of a vital 'bus route, effectively cutting off Stainland and Holywell Green residents from their medical support providers is inexcusable. Your local Liberal Democrat Councillors are fighting for this route to be reinstated."
