There is a new attempt by Calderdale Council to close Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre. These plans were announced to the public just days before the cabinet of the Council is due to decide upon them on Monday 9th November.
A cabinet paper entitled 'The Future Council - Delivery Plan 2' includes an option to permanently close the centre. Back in 2018 similar plans to close the visitors centre were dropped after an outcry from small businesses and residents of the Town who were concerned about the impact the closure would have on the tourism trade.
Nikki Stocks Liberal Democrat Campaigner in Hebden Bridge said "Hebden Bridge depends on tourism for jobs and the economy. The plans by the Labour Party to close the Tourist Information Centre in Hebden Bridge are short sighted. The centre could be mothballed and reopened at a later date.
Once it has gone it’s gone. I urge you to sign this petition that we will submit to Calderdale Council on your behalf."
'We the undersigned oppose the closure of Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre. It is vital as part of our recovery from the pandemic to support and grow the tourism sector in the Upper Valley. We call on the cabinet of the Council to explore alternative options for keeping the centre open."
