Under the current Labour Council administration some roads in Calderdale are in a shocking state. Further problems lie ahead as the Government has just announced it is cutting our highways grant by 22%.
Having decent quality roads is important. It makes it safer for cyclists and prevents damage to cars and other road users. It's time we started making a noise about this problem to those in control. So please back our three-point plan to fix Calderdale’s roads.
1. Stop cuts to our budgets - Petition the Government to restore the cut to Calderdale's Highways grant from £6.299m in 2020/21 to £4.921m in 2021/22 (a 22% reduction overall).
2. No more botch jobs. We want Investment in the latest technology such as ‘JCBs Pothole Machine’, and high quality repairs.
3. Proper investment in our roads - A cost analysis to explore if borrowing for a large capital program (Such as the £100M scheme Stockport undertook) to replace roads would be more effective than spending on constantly patching up old roads.
